300th Anniversary Events at
Tours to Germany for the Anniversary Year
The Brethren World Assembly is set to convene in August of 2008. This time it will take place in Schwarzenau, Germany, the location of the birth of the Brethren. August 3, 2008 is the day set aside for commemorating the anniversary during this event. The World Assembly is a regular event that is sponsored by the Brethren Encyclopedia Board.
Several tours are being prepared by a number of individuals in conjunction with the World Assembly. The information below is what we currently know about tours and for your convenience if you would like to go. Because airlines generally don't release rates of fare until eleven months prior to flights, some of the hosts are not yet providing an estimated price. I am therefore not including any prices in the list at this time. In sharing this listing with you, please understand that we are not endorsing one tour over another, or implying that the Anniversary Committee is sponsoring any of these. This list is simply to provide important information that relates to the anniversary. If there are others out there who are planning tours, we would be glad to hear from you as well.

It is our guess that there are other tours in the works that we haven't heard about. More may be added to this list in the future.
For those making their own plans: Scwarzenau is small and doesn't seem to have many accomodations. Marburg is a city with numerous housing options. It is about a 40 minute drive from Scwarzenau. Kassel is to the northwest of Scharzenau and has some housing. Bad Laasphe is closer to Scwarzenau and is a smaller town.
Through an internet search, we have found the following:
- Marburg: Waldecker Hof, Best Western Marburg, Europaischer Hof, Vila Vita Hotel, Village Stadthotel, and Hotel Sauerlander, and several others.
- Kassel: Moevenpick, Courtyard By Marriott, Schlosshotel Wilhemshohe, Best Western Hotel Kurfuerst Wilhelm I, Ibis Kassel, Waldhotel Schaeferberg, Ramada Kassel City Centre, Comfort Hotel Melsungen, Best Western Queens Hotel Kassel, Top Art Hotel Schweizer Hof, there are at least 22 hotels in Kassel altogether.
- Bad Laasphe: Ramada Hotel Bad Laasphe, Landhotel Doerr, Hotel Lahnblick, Relais& Chateaux Jagdhof Glashutte, Hotel Jagdhaus Wiese, Hotel Sauerlander Hof, Hotel Rehblick, Hotel Haus Herrloh.
