Faith Alive: Surrendered, Transformed, Empowered

Three hundred years after the birth of our denomination, this inspirational DVD (approximately 30 minutes in length) explores some of the distinctive marks that make our faith peculiarly Brethren.  It profiles Brethren members who are living their faith in ways that make a real difference, particularly related to issues of baptism, simplicity, peacemaking, service to others, respect for creation, and the need to share with others the good news of Jesus Christ.  They are making a difference in the world and advancing the kingdom of God each and every day.  Hopefully, in learning about their stories, we will all be inspired to respond to God's call in ways that are faithful to our heritage and identity and will continue to expand God's kingdom as we move into the future.  Available from Brethren Press.  $20.00.

Fresh from the Word

The Word was fresh for the first eight Brethren in Schwarzenau, Germany, in 1708. They were reading the Bible with new eyes. Now we celebrate that beginning with 366 devotions, one for each day of the anniversary year. Building on that early encounter with the Bible, each meditation lifts up the Word's freshness for our day. This keepsake devotional was drawn from all six of the Brethren groups descended from the Schwarzenau eight, and from some of the countries beyond the U.S. where Brethren are in mission today.

Read and be moved by this collection every day during 2008, and then return and be enriched again. Because the devotions are perpetually dated, Fresh from the Word can be used and treasured for years to come.

The Meanest Man in Patrick County

By Frank Ramirez

You might not have heard of Cain Lackey, Ann Rowland, or Harold Lefever, but you could call them unlikely Brethren heroes. Each was just an ordinary person doing an extraordinary thing with uncommon conviction.
